Xiangqi
A017
Chinese Chess, also known as Xiangqi, is an
intellectual strategy game played between two players. It originated in China
and is popular in several Asian countries, including Vietnam.
The game is played on a rectangular board with 32 chess pieces
(16 pieces for each player). The main objective is to checkmate the opponent’s
general (similar to checkmating the king in chess). Xiangqi requires players to
use tactics and skills to capture the opponent’s general.
In addition to China, Xiangqi is also popular in countries with
significant Chinese communities, including Vietnam, where it is called “cờ
tướng” or “Chinese chess.” The game represents a battle between two armies,
with the primary goal being to checkmate the opponent’s general (king). If

Tứ sắc (Four Colors) is a popular Vietnamese
card game, commonly played in the central and southern regions of Vietnam. The
game has its origins in China and is considered a precursor to the development
of the three-card and “tôm” (shrimp) card sets in Vietnam.
Structure of Tứ sắc:
·
Each Tứ sắc deck
consists of 112 cards, divided into 7 “đạo quân” (armies).
·
Each “đạo quân”
contains 16 cards, evenly distributed among 4 colors: blue, red, white, and
yellow.
·
The card ranks
include: General (Tướng), Soldier (Lính), Elephant (Tượng), Tank (Xe Tăng),
Cannon (Pháo), Horse (Ngựa), and Pawn (Tốt).
Game Rules:
1. Dealing: The dealer selects the first player. Each player receives
5 cards per round, divided into 4 rounds for a total of 20 cards.
2. Drawing: If a player has no valid cards to play, they must draw
from the “Venom” pile (remaining cards in the center).
3. Objective: Complete the total number of cards in your hand by forming
valid combinations (“đi”) and discarding unwanted cards.

In
the mystical realm of Tarot, each deck is not just a divination tool but also a
unique work of art. The Tarot of Hellen, created by Valerie Bernard and
published by AGM Müller in 1999, stands as a quintessential example, blending
symbolic botanical imagery with ancient Greek mythological figures.
This deck
comprises 78 cards, divided into two main sections: 22 Major Arcana cards and
56 Minor Arcana cards. Each Major Arcana card is associated with a specific
plant, ranging from Pansy to Centaury, carrying profound messages and meanings.
Meanwhile, the Minor Arcana is categorized into four suits: Leaves, Branches,
Flowers, and Grains, each symbolizing an element of nature and life.
The royal
cards within the Minor Arcana are represented by ancient Greek deities, from
the Page to the Knight, Queen, and King, each wielding their distinct power and
authority. “The Fool” is numbered 0, symbolizing beginnings and innocence,
while “Strength” and “Justice” are numbered 11 and 8, reflecting the balance
between inner power and societal fairness.
Each card
measures 7.00cm x 12.00cm, facilitating easy handling and contemplation. The
language used on the cards is English, making interpretation accessible to a
global audience. The back of the cards is unspecified, allowing for a touch of
mystery and room for imagination.
The Tarot
of Hellen is more than a predictive tool; it is an inspired artwork that opens
a portal to a spiritual and mysterious world where the fusion of nature and
mythology embarks one on a rich and diverse journey of self-discovery.
