Académie des Jeux was a compendium published in
Paris by Delarue around 1850. It contained rules for various games, including
card games, billiards, chess, dominoes, and checkers. This new edition also
provided information on playing advantageously, the probabilities of games of
chance, and the penalties associated with mistakes. Although the book’s
condition was average, it remains an interesting testament to the era when
gambling games were popular²³.
In modern times, gambling games have experienced a resurgence, becoming a popular pastime for various groups of people. For instance, poker has gained popularity through television broadcasts and commercialization in several European countries. However, it’s essential to recognize that excessive gambling can have negative consequences, and gambling addiction is now acknowledged as a public health issue in some European nations. Responsible gaming practices and promoting responsible play are crucial to prevent problems related to gambling¹
