About the Museum

Let the Museum introduce itself

About Museum of Tarot

Museum of Tarot (or Bảo Tàng Tarot in Vietnamese), founded in 2016 (will officially open in 2017), is located in Can Tho City, in the south of Vietnam. The museum has three themes: Lithotherapy, Cartomancy and Demonology.

It is combined from six main collections related to Tarology:

Fortune Telling Cards (Tarot and Oracles decks), Historical Books and Documents on Cartomancy, Art of Cardmaking and Decoration of Fortune Telling Cards; Amulets and Talismans and Magical Tools; Lithotherapy Crystals and Charmestones; Demonological and Sacred Books and Haunted Objects.

The museum is established in an ancient noble hotel, called “the citron house”, under the Vietnamese renaissance style. This house is sacrificed for the museum by an old couple of lawyer, Anh Ngo and Duong Ho in 2015.

BB032: The Arcane Artistry of Elisabeth Haich’s Tarot: A Journey Through Consciousness

Elisabeth Haich Tarot

BB032

Exploring the Mystical Depths of Elisabeth Haich’s Tarot

Elisabeth Haich, a name synonymous with spirituality and mysticism, left behind a legacy that transcends time. Among her many contributions, the Elisabeth Haich Tarot stands out as a beacon of esoteric wisdom. Created to accompany her seminal work, “Tarot: The Twenty-Two Stages of Human Consciousness,” these cards are more than mere tools for divination; they are keys to unlocking the profound layers of the human psyche.

The Elisabeth Haich Tarot, first published in 1969, comprises 22 cards, each meticulously crafted to represent the Major Arcana. Haich’s collaboration with Oswald Wirth, a notable figure in the realm of Tarot, resulted in a deck that harmonizes the traditional symbolism of the Tarot with Haich’s unique spiritual insights. The cards eschew the conventional borders and ideograms, opting instead for a purer form that invites contemplation and introspection.

Haich’s interpretation of the Tarot is deeply rooted in her understanding of spirituality and her experiences with yoga, which she helped popularize in Central Europe alongside Selva Yesudian. Her approach to the Tarot is not one of fortune-telling but as a means to explore the various stages of consciousness that lead to self-realization. She draws upon Hindu philosophies and prehistoric initiatory practices to imbue each card with a sense of ancient wisdom.

The deck’s design, while paying homage to Wirth’s artistic vision, is devoid of extraneous elements, focusing solely on the essence of the symbols. The 1983 reprint saw the reintroduction of ornamental borders and a slight alteration in color schemes, yet the cards remained true to Haich’s original vision. The cardstock is notably thin, emphasizing the ethereal nature of the Tarot experience.

Elisabeth Haich’s Tarot is not just a set of cards but a journey through the archetypes of the human experience. It invites seekers to delve into the depths of their being, to confront and embrace the myriad facets of their inner world. In a world where the Tarot is often seen as a means to predict the future, Haich’s deck serves as a reminder that the true power of Tarot lies in its ability to illuminate the path to our most authentic selves.

AA015:Unlocking Inner Wisdom: The Journey Through Tarot's Major Arcana

The Tarot: Path to Self-Development

AA015

“The Tarot: Path to Self-Development” is an insightful guide on using Tarot cards as a tool for personal growth. The author, Micheline Stuart, explores the meanings of the 22 Major Arcana cards, each representing a significant stage in one’s inner development journey.

In the book, each card is seen as a link in the chain of life, a symbolic experience that needs to be undergone and understood. The author uses meditative passages to demonstrate how to recognize these symbolic experiences in daily life and provides valuable insights into the self-development process.

The book is not just a guide to Tarot but also a source of inspiration for those seeking a deeper understanding of themselves and life. It opens a new door for us to connect with our intuition and find guidance from within.

AA014:Journey Through the Arcana: Unveiling the Starter Tarot Deck's Mystique

Starter Tarot

AA014

The Starter Tarot Deck: A Spiritual Window

In the mystical world of Tarot, the Starter Tarot Deck stands out for its simplicity and latent power. Designed by artist George Bennett, this deck initially included only 22 Major Arcana cards, inspired by the Tarot de Marseille. By 1989, it was expanded to include 56 Minor Arcana cards, completing the full deck with 78 cards.

Each card in the Starter Tarot Deck is not just a beautiful image but also a unique story. Particularly, the 56 Minor Arcana cards narrate four different tales corresponding to the four suits: coins, cups, wands, and swords. Laid out from Ace to King, they form a continuous narrative depicting the journey of each suit.

A distinctive feature of this deck is the meaning hints printed directly on each card, with upright meanings at the top and reversed at the bottom. However, these keywords can be distracting and may not accurately reflect the personal perspective of the reader.

The Starter Tarot Deck is more than a divination tool; it is a companion that aids us in exploring and developing our inner intuition. It opens up a spiritual realm where we can find guidance and deeper understanding of ourselves and the world around us.

The Golden Marseille Tarot

Each card is a masterpiece, adorned with golden ornate patterns, like soft silk ribbons wrapped around the long history of Tarot. BB031: Oswald Wirth’s Tarot: Unveiling the 1889 Esoteric Journey

The original Oswald Wirth Tarot of 1889 no.1

BB031

Title: “The Arcana Canvas: Artistic Evolution in the Modern Tarot”

The tarot deck, a compendium of symbolic imagery, has long been a source of fascination, not only for its divinatory use but also for its artistic expression. The modern era has witnessed a renaissance in tarot art, transforming the traditional archetypes into a vibrant gallery of contemporary creativity.

At the heart of this artistic resurgence is the Centre for Tarot Art, a sanctuary dedicated to the preservation and celebration of tarot as a form of emblematic art. The Centre, curated by Adam McLean, boasts a collection that is arguably the most comprehensive of its kind, encompassing over 2500 items that document the evolution of tarot imagery over the past half-century.

The tarot’s structured framework of 22 Major Arcana and 56 Minor Arcana cards might seem restrictive at first glance. However, this structure has proven to be a canvas for boundless creativity. Artists have reimagined the tarot in myriad ways, each deck becoming a unique narrative reflecting the social and cultural zeitgeist of our times.

One of the Centre’s notable projects is the Art Tarot series, limited edition decks that are highly sought after by collectors. These decks are not mere reproductions of traditional tarot motifs; they are reinterpretations that breathe new life into the cards. For instance, the Phantomwise Tarot by Erin J. McCauley, with its monochromatic palette and influences from myth and fairy tales, presents a dreamlike vision that captivates the observer.

The Centre’s commitment to tarot art extends beyond collection and curation. It has embarked on an ambitious project to create a descriptive and analytical database of modern tarot decks, both published and unpublished. This database serves as a testament to the enduring allure of tarot art and its capacity to evolve and adapt.

In essence, the modern tarot deck has become more than a tool for divination—it has emerged as a dynamic art form that mirrors the complexities of the human experience. As we delve into the Centre for Tarot Art’s offerings, we are reminded that each card is not just a static image but a snapshot of an ongoing story, inviting us to explore the depths of our collective unconscious.

Nicolas Conver’s Tarot de Marseille: A Classic Portrait

1. History and Authorship

The Tarot de Marseille by Nicolas Conver is believed to have originated around 1760 and has become a symbol of the classic form of the Tarot de Marseille. However, there are some questions regarding the true creator of this deck. Nicolas Conver, who is credited as the author, may not have been the original creator of this Tarot deck. Instead, he might have inherited the patterns from previous generations and named them after himself. Nonetheless, Nicolas Conver’s Tarot de Marseille is still considered a representative version of the classic Tarot de Marseille form.

2. Design and The Tarot Cards

The deck consists of 78 cards, printed on thin paper with standard dimensions. The back of the cards is reversible, allowing users to choose how to lay the cards during Tarot readings. The deck is packaged in a soft paper box, accompanied by a small booklet introducing how to use it.

3. Meaning and Usage

Nicolas Conver’s Tarot de Marseille is often used for predicting the future and self-discovery. With its classic imagery and distinctive symbols, this deck helps users connect with the Tarot tradition and explore their own soul and future.
