The
Secrets of Aleister Crowley
“The Secrets of Aleister Crowley” by Robert North:
In the real world, Aleister Crowley was a sexual
predator, lifelong junkie, and failed Christian mystic. However, he did have a
cool sense of humor! Early biographers who met Crowley in person added personal
recollections to their accounts. But both friends and journalists often retold
the stories Crowley had invented about himself. These tales portrayed him as a
combination of bon vivant, scientific rationalist, mystic ascetic, and supreme
master of the magical arts. Crowley intentionally perpetuated disinformation
about his life by not copyrighting his books, ensuring they would be reprinted
and circulated. His life has taken on a mythic quality, but much of it has
little basis in fact. If you’re interested in exploring more, you can find the
book here1.
