BB165: Exploring the Mystical Pathways: A Journey Through the Via Tarot Deck no.1

Via Tarot no.1

BB165

Via Tarot: The Via Tarot is a deck directly inspired by Aleister Crowley’s Thoth Tarot. It draws on kabbalistic, alchemical, and magical sources. The cards, illustrated in colored pencil, resemble the Thoth Tarot but are more aesthetically pleasing. Let’s explore this unique deck further!

Overview

  • Deck Type: Tarot Deck
  • Cards: 78
  • Creators: Susan Jameson, John Bonner
  • Publisher: Urania (2002)

Creation and Inspiration

Internationally known artist Susan Jameson created the Via Tarot. Unlike many other Tarot decks, which are developed by artists for specific audiences or purposes, Jameson’s project began with a visionary dream. Through a series of “channeling” or “scrying” sessions, she received the images for the Major Arcana from entities specifically identified as the Daughters of Light and the Daughters of the Daughters of Light. These entities are also found on the Minor Arcana cards.

Card Images

  • The images received by Jameson during these sessions were seen as small bubbles of light, which gradually revealed themselves over time as the full image of a given card.
  • Each Minor Arcana card includes an inset lozenge or medallion at the top, originally described by Aleister Crowley in his Thoth Tarot. Lady Frieda Harris omitted these insets when she painted Crowley’s Thoth deck, but Jameson included them in the Via Tarot.

Packaging and Details

  • The cards come in a strong plastic book-type case, published by Urania (a division of A. G. Mueller).
  • The accompanying Little White Book (LWB) provides details about Jameson’s reception of the card images and briefly explains the connection of the Tarot to the Qabalah.
  • Card dimensions: 3 ¾ by 5 ½ inches, allowing for detailed imagery.
  • The card stock is somewhat thin but durable enough for regular use.

The Via Tarot offers a fresh perspective on the Thoth tradition, combining mystical inspiration with artistic expression. Whether you’re a seasoned Tarot reader or a curious seeker, this deck invites exploration and introspection.
